EE Goals

Who are we writing our EEs for? This is sort of a funky situation, where we're writing it for a grade from a teacher but also for points from IB. Which is more important, and where would you rather receive a high score? I feel that it should be IB, but to be honest I think the CP grade means more to me. What are your thoughts on this?

  1. The IB grade matters more to me, even though the two are both likely to give high scores if the essay is good. My reason is that your CP grade is set in stone already when applying to colleges, and as long as they don't see you failing after being accepted, you will be entered. The IB grade will give you bonus points toward the diploma, and may give you credit at college classes.

  2. I personally feel like the CP grade matters more to me. Why? Because I set a goal in 9th grade to graduate with IB Diploma, AP Scholar, and Highest Honors. All three are important to me, but I'm walking a fine line for the Highest Honors. I can get all three still, but I only have a few select chances to pull my GPA up (and hopefully, my class rank). I recognize that these things wont matter after High School, but for me, they are very important. It is kind of one of those things where I need to realize my goals. I'm not one who likes to fail or embraces it in any way. Because of this, I've lost countless hours of sleep, and I will likely lose more in the future.

  3. its tough because we are supposed to write a very sophisticated paper, but MS Mork would also like it to be for a general audience. How can you write a sophisticated general research paper? I find it extremely hard in math, especially since its cumulative, unlike english, or history, or pretty much any other subject besides physics and chemistry, but that is because both of those require math. While to some extent, one can describe it, they cannot describe all the previous courses needed to be taken (say as elementary as multiplication and division or even addition/subtraction) for one to understand the entire concept: then, how ethical is it to dumb down such a complex topic? I refuse to write a paper that is for the complex, and simplify it for those who haven't done the work to get to the topic, but that is just my point of view. I view it like IB views their program: they will not let in anyone who is not worthy of the program. If you haven't done the work to be able to get in and keep up with the work, then you can't join, i'm sorry. However if you have done the work to get up to this point, you are welcome to follow along. Don't try skipping steps, it just doesn't work.

also i feel that my CP grade matters more in my SL classes, however in my HL classes, if i get a 5 or higher that is when i will be allowed to skip taking those classes in college. I suppose i would like to say both, but as in my AP Calc BC test, when i got the 5 at the end, Mr Tenold changed all my grades to accommodate for getting a 5 (A- in all 3 tris! YES!) In that case it did not matter that i had gotten low Bs in that class because the end result paid off very well, which is what i hope to achieve in college.
