This feels like a shallow topic to blog about. Stereotypically "girly". But I'm going to blog about it anyways. TAKE THAT.
What I'm wearing and how my hair is styled can completely change my approach to a day and my mood. Is it this way for anybody else? For example, if I'm wearing a sweatshirt and yoga pants, I like to curl up and sprawl out and dance and move in different ways all day, and I have an increased urge to nap. I also tend to approach school and homework with a lazier, "I don't care" attitude. However, if my hair is straightened and I'm wearing nice jeans and shirt and jewelry I planned out, I sit properly more often, hold my head a little higher, and attack the day with more productivity.
It's not like I think about what I'm wearing before I act in any of these ways. It's subconscious, however, I notice the trend. Does anybody else feel how they look affects how they act? Is this shallow to act in this way, even without thinking about it?
One's appearance is certainly the first factor considered when seeing someone for the first time in a new day. I usually never think of being particularly formal when I wear a nice shirt, but I do consider what people may think. I don't really act any differently but maybe make a point to look sharp around the face. I used to care even less on how I looked; I never wore jeans between 3rd and 10th grade.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the way we act is simply a cause of the way we dress. The usual example is: someone gets up late and throws on whatever just to get to school. I do think if you are more self-conscious, but not insecure, you will improve at most other things if you look like you give a care.
BTW you were dressed nicely on Monday (today). Not formally but not carelessly. Were you aware of it throughout the day?
I know exactly what you mean! When I wear skirts and nice tops to school I feel much more matter-of-fact and sophisticated, ready to seize the school day and tackle the mountains of IB homework. But when I do where sweats to school or a baggy hoody I feel "lazier" as Jackie put it. I never really thought about it but Jackie has a great point. Subconsciously what we wear influences our mood and outlook on the day. What about a certain color that a person chooses to wear that day? For instance, today (Tuesday) I was very purple. What do you think that says about me?
ReplyDeletei don't think that what we wear influences our mood, i think our mood is reflected in what we wear. I know that on days that i feel lazier, i tend to not care what i wear - hence pajama pants, or jeans and a plain tee. On days when i feel productive i dress up, or do something strange (like wearing my chains - i was rather productive today :D) I think sometimes it can be relevant and othertimes it's not because you don't consider it relevant on that day. Some days i don't wear makeup because i don't have time in the morning, even though i want to wear makeup. Somedays i don't wear makeup because im too lazy
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the cause/affect sequence varies person to person. Cody and Karli both mentioned that perhaps one's mood influences their dress - however, I usually mentally decide at night what I'll wear the next day. There's no way I can predict my mood like that. Interesting stuff to be aware about.
ReplyDeleteSide note - Brikken, I loved your purple scarf and skirt on Tuesday. It gave a feminine, happy impression, at least to me. Did you feel any "girlier" or productive, do you feel?
